It's with great sadness that we inform you of the recent passing of OWCC Partner and volunteer, Rick Cortez.
Please join us Monday, December 5th, at 11am as we remember and celebrate Rick's life together with his friends, family, and peers from the San Antonio Fire Department.

Rick's obituary, written by his family, is below.

Richard Cortez, 62, passed away suddenly from complications due to cancer, on November 23, 2022 in Denver, CO. Rick was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas where he met his wonderful wife, Debbie, had three children, and was a dog dad. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, going for long bike rides, and sharing meals. Rick was in the fire department for 34 years where he served as a firefighter and an engineer, then later worked as a paramedic and finished his career as an instructor at the San Antonio Fire Academy. While there he made lifelong memories and friends, and experienced more than his fair share of shenanigans. He was never short of jokes, laughter, or pranks, he was a light to many that will be missed. His constant optimism will be carried on by his wife, Debbie Cortez, their children, Kenny and Laura, his brother Mario, and countless other family and friends. He will be reunited with his parents, Consuelo and Henry, his brother Albert, and his son Michael.
